Here is a guide to help you plan an explanation, just like the ones in our videos. It includes instructions and visuals that serve as a starting point for your next explanation. It helps you:
- Consider your audience and their needs
- Use the Common Craft Explanation Scale
- Understand the flow of explanations from “why?” to “how?”
- Focus on Explanation stepping stones
- Create a basic outline for a script
This guide is for licensed Common Craft members only and cannot be shared publicly.

This is great!
I am just planning on using the cut outs for a lesson late in March. These guides will really help with my 7th grade students.

hi guys - just signed up
My students make 2d cut-out animations. The idea now is to explain how easy it is to reach their city, a small town in sweden without a proper airport. my question is this: can this non-profit explanation video be uploaded to the city's own site? Would it be fair use of the original cutouts? Or should the students make new ones? Thanks for bringing clear explanation know-how to the world.
Of course!
Thanks for asking about this Daniel. Yes, you and your students are welcome to use the Common Craft cut-outs in your videos and presentations and share those videos online, including the city's website. You can even use YouTube if you want. We want the cut-outs to be a useful resource for you. Enjoy!
Thank You!
This is all so helpful. I think it may be the part of the puzzle I need to explain the misconceptions about adult dyslexia. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Happy to help Greta!
Adult dyslexia seems like something that could really benefit from better explanations.
