I Think This Internet Thing is for Real
By leelefever on February 17, 2005 - 2:08pm.
Last night Sachiko and I were talking about monthly bills and what we could do without.
Cable/Satellite? Perhaps gladly.
Land line? Not a problem.
Cell phones? We could live.
Internet access? Never.
It was funny to me to think of the resources I grew up using and how, just over 7-8 years, Internet access has become one of the absolute must-haves. I could not imagine a world without it. Actually, I can barely imagine a world without wireless high speed access.

I Think This Internet Thing is for Real
With Skype, you don't need a landline at all.
Cell and a few channels on cable would be nice though.

I think the same is true with Vonage (VOIP), regarding not needing a land line.
I Think This Internet Thing is for Real
Yeah, except that it costs money :)
My wife insists on a land line (I dunno...) and I need one for Tivo (although thinking about upgrading and getting the one with Ethernet). As such, I've really been looking at Vonage.

Ack. I forgot about TiVo. I have an old one that requires a land line. The newer ones work with a web connection though.

I hear ya. When I moved into a new job a few years ago, we were looking at a 40% pay cut, so we evaluated expenses. We cut a lot of stuff, but not the broadband. :-)
