Hi, congrats on the video. I'd really like to use it in a presentation to clinical staff and wonder how I would gain your permission to do so?

Comment reading strategies

Thanks a lot for all your 'plain English' videos. They're very helpful. Could you make a video on 'comment reading and tracking strategies'? I've posted this question on my blogs and other's blogs a couple of times. I find it hard to comment on other's blogs and keep track of those comments.

File not found?

Is anyone else getting the "Error. File not Found" message when they try to play this video? I've been able to play many of your other videos, but I can't get this one to go for some reason.

thanks!

RSS video

Hi Jason,
I have heard one other report about this problem. I can't seem to reproduce it on my end. I've reloaded the video to see if that will help. If anyone else sees the problem, could you please comment with your operating system and browser? Thanks.

You can also view the video on YouTube:

RSS as a software is more privat

I would've also mentioned Software that is actually installed on your computer. That makes it a little more privet. Maybe I don't want google to know which sites I'm surfing on.

Thanks

Thanks, hope you don't mind me posting this on my site. I will go ahead and put links to you.

Wow thanks! I’m a regular

Wow thanks! I’m a regular reader and enjoy your work. Keep it up!

I love your explanation of RSS readers. You explained it so simply (and with humor!) and it's so easy to follow -- I've been pointing all my friends and family to this video when I've been asked to explain the wonder that is RSS to them!

RSS tag

Hi,

I need to add that RRS tag into my web site how to build that as I am really not a programming Guru.

Thank You

Thank you so much for taking the time to teach RSS basics. Your plain english video is entertaining and very informative. You've enhanced my BlackBerry Addiction and brought it to a new level!

I'd like to embed the version from dotSUB.com

Your explanation of RSS took

Your explanation of RSS took all the mystery out--THANK YOU! Between this and your social bookmarking video you've really enhanced my online experience and now I can share the benefits of web2.0 with others. You rock so hard!

AnjaGo nosing bei

Too abstract, it would be better for us, if you could come up with some link to it, saying for more and detailed explanation, get onto some other video, which has a lot more detail and not this bird's eye view. Good work.

RSS Vid

Thank you so much for putting up this video!!! I am new to the blogging world and was trying to figure out exactly what RSS meant. I read many sourced but still couldn't figure out what it meant - till now!!! Your video was truly enlightening :)

Thanks again

Thanks for the Great Explanation of a Productivity Tool

Lee and Sachi -
Fabulous job of showing non-technical people the basics of RSS and why they should care to learn. You did an excellent job of simplifying a complex issue. As this is something that I do daily when coaching my clients, I appreciate how difficult it is to determine what should and what should not be included in a short time frame. Very well done. I'll be sharing on at least 3 different blogs!

Oh! My non-technical dad watched it tonight after he saw me laughing as I watched (out of joy) and he "got it" -- now that is fabulous!
To your success
Stephanie

Thanks Stephanie!

We love hearing about family members who learn from the videos. Our pleasure!

Thanks so much

Problem solved. Thanks so much.

Awesome

Very informative video! Thanks

Great Learning Tool

You are the living proof that 'techies' can be GREAT TEACHERS.

Your video is a superb learning tool - well done!

These videos are brilliant. Thank you.

I've watched the video once, am now a little less crosseyed and confused, but need to view it again at least ten times.

These videos are brilliant. Thank you.

Thanks for The KISS guide to RSS

I can't tell you how hard it is to explain to people who aren't familiar with this - I would like to use this video on my blog to help explain it further if that's ok. Thanks for keeping it simple :)

Hello Sire. Thanks alot for

Hello Sire.
Thanks alot for such a wonderful intro to RSS technology. Your method of delivering the lecture was excellent.
Keep up the good work,
and thank you for teaching me RSS in the simplest and most effective way.
Best Regards.

Great Stuff

This video, and others on this site, offer the best explanations of RSS and other new technologies that stitch the web together.

Wonderful!!

In my work I see a lot of instructional design and information design. This is by far one of the best instructional videos I have seen!!

Can I use when I am teaching instructional design?

Amazing

This really helped me learn more about RSS!
I thought RSS was only like a podcast thing, so I always got confused seeing those orange buttons on websites.

I have to learn about RSS for work so this really helped me out, thanks!

Considering This Video

I 'll have to place this video on my site. great work and information.

How do I get this

How do I get this subtitled/captioned in English?? I am speaking at a Deaf Health Care professionals conference and would love to show this video without having to stand next to the screen and interpret the narration. My topic is how to use the web to keep ourselves up to date. I use googlereader and would love to encourage others to do the same. It has provided me easy access to CME/CEU credits and the latest information on the medications I give my patients everyday!!!

Great Site !

FYI - I got wind of your site as it was mentioned in a discussion at a Bridging (New) Media conference a couple of days ago.

Cheers! Keep on Explaining!

Genevieve

Perfect!

This is the only way people can learn something about 2.0 web! Thanx!

Awesome.

Awesome.

RSS Outbound?

I loved the video for receiving RSS and really appreciated the simplcity of it. What I need, however, is an equally simple explanation of RSS from the perspective of me wanting to set it up on my own site so people can be updated on new stuff I add to it.
Can anyone help me with this in plain english??

great breakdown

i love videos that are not over techie... great job

Digg it

Very nice resource, folks - congratulations! I dug it

It was suprise!!!

It was suprise for video in rss....

It nice

Thanks you for posting the useful info for rss

Great for training

Just wanted to say a belated 'thanks' for the videos. I use the RSS and del.icio.us ones at the Frontline Club, a journalism charity based in London, during media training for foreign correspondents, war reporters and regular journalists in how to use social media. The course always receives fantastic feedback and I put a lot of that down to you guys. Thanks for making my job a wee bit easier and condensing sometimes difficult to grasp information into to bitesized video nuggets. Ta.

I'm trying to use web tools

I'm trying to use web tools like RSS and Podcasting to get the internet publicity machine rolling for my music. Your videos are extremely helpful and they make it all seem a lot less daunting. Thanks for the great work!

Wow, that just gave me a great idea!

This was by far the best explaination of RSS and blogs that I have ever seen. I am going to use it for my blog about amalaki. I wish I would have found this site 12 months ago! It's brilliant!

R(eal) S(imple) S(tuff)

Wow, I've always wondered what the little orange icon was but never took the time to find out. Your video made RSS so simple and easy to figure out. Thank you for taking the time to put it into "plain english" for folks who are new to blogging, like myself. I will now subscribe to your blog because I am sure the learning doesn't stop here. Cheers!

Lessons RSS

Very good their lessons in RSS, came looking for quality content on the web and found here, and most do not want to leave.

RSS explained

That is a great explanation of RSS. I've emailed this post to my broker. They have a blog training site and I think it would be a good addition to it.

Good Resources

You have good explaination here and useful article.
Thanks a lot for all your 'plain English' videos. They're very helpful.

Floored!

This stuff is great! I keep seeing your stuff andd it's cool!

I hope a lot more advertisers use you!

RSS feeds for non-blog readers

Lee - love your videos, but we need one more basic to explain how to move from in-boxes clogged with uncontrolled mail from listservs to user-controlled RSS Readers. People need to move a lot of messages onto blogs or Google Sites, instead of using endless listerv postings. Simultaneously RSS Reader needs to be explained as a way to take control of your life by organizing all possible news and updates into a place where you can find and read what you want, when you want. Hope that you can do another one on RSS feeds aimed more at the masses who don't yet follow blogs or news.... because they spend all their time dealing with email.... thanks!

RSS in Plain English

These are excellent "If I'd only known this before" videos. I'll be back for more and will definitely share. :)

Thanks Bunches

This was fabulous....I actually understand the concept now...woohoo!!!!!

I never write on blogs unless is very important

I'm a SEO and web developer with over 8 years in the industry, and I only have one word for you..

YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!!!!

Your video idea on going about explaining tech in plain English totally blows my mind!!

With my clients, I always try to explain things in an easy way. But you did something extraordinary.

I'm sure you will make it big ,very fast.

Best of luck!

Get it on My Blog

Now, that was nice and informative but I need to now figure out how to get the nice little orange button avaliable on my blog so that other people can click upon its wonderfulness. Hmm.. Back to Google!

Great job again

subject says it all. By the way, take a look at RSS at Car Parts - is it ok?

Glad I found this site while surffing for help!

I was trying to find out more about what RSS was all about and how to use RSS for my own website and your video (really cool btw) is awesome! your voice is so commercially perfect for what you do!......
Thanks!

That's how all presentations should be like!

We should defy the "death by powerpoint"-syndrome at our university by this kind of presentation. Great didactic methodology!

You crack me up

That was awesome and so funny - makes learning a breeze.
You're an inspiration - I'm preparing some e-learning and getting bogged down and that just gives me a reality check. Thanks

Readers

Very nice video! ^^

I only have one thing to add, a reader doesn't have to be a website.
I personally just use my internetbrowser (Opera) to subscribe to RSS feeds. (And I will definitely subscribe to this website =])

thanks for this wonderful explaination of RSS - RSS is a fab tool that everyone should be using and you've made it easy for me to explain to others how it works

awesome!!
thanks :)

Your Videos

Brilliant!!! I always refer to your videos for quick and simple understanding of the techie jargon in place of reading pages of books and articles. This really fast tracks my understanding.

The visuals are simply Brilliant! I love how you make it so simple... very interactive reminds me of show and tell ... and believe it or not I REMEMBER the lesson....

.... so i guess the question is where is your RSS feed so i can subscribe???

WEll Done

another awesome video keep them coming please

That explanation was spot on

That explanation was spot on and funny too. I like to compare rss feeds to sms messages and rss readers to cellphones when explaining to my friends.

Just great

Or RSS for Dummies :)

Great work

Thank you very much for the work. This is excellent!

Thanks, it's really cool video to tell the rest of us what RSS. Did you ever try to see how easy RSS subscription is. You definitely should make a video for them too. I really loved the way you explained it. I am a major feeds fan, but I find it a pity that there are still so many people afraid of using them. There's a huge need to explain the basics of RSS to get people excited about it and this does it really really well. Your really did great with this video! I am sending it around to all my friends. Outstanding.

again i found myself coming back to this blog for help. thank you

Video no found

Just try to view the video and youtube says that it's not found? Anyone else have this problem?

Thank-you!!!

I found the link to your RSS video in my Blogging for Dummies Book! I've just finished designing and giving birth to my own website. Not easy for an old techno-challenged artist! My generation didn't grow up with computers and I find myself slow to catch on. So, with my website and my art blog (I teach non-artistic adults to become artists) I hope to generate some business and readership. Thank-you for helping me understand RSS!!! I just love your approach. I think humor is one of the best ways to learn. I will now go and sign up to Google Reader and get started! I have so much to learn. - Kathy H.

Thanks for the simple and clever tutorial RSS video

Man do i feel like a dinosaur that just stepped into civilization. Where have I been?

You are the first blog I subscribed too as soon as I got my Google Reader account. Keep up the great work!

Will inform you should I ever use your material should in my company website or blog and will certainly credit you.

Thanks!

Right on th Button

I must say that RSS, even though it has been around for many years is still in its infancy. How would the internet be if everyone used RSS?

I'm STILL using this

I know this video was created a while ago, but I am STILL referencing people to it for a basic and solid understanding of RSS. Thanks for building the knowledge of the web (and the millions of people that use it!). Don't forget to celebrate One Web Day!

http://timecapsule.onewebday.org/

cheers!

wow

It has been a humbling experience to see all your kind words about our little video. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

thank you...

Thanks so much for this great video.  I loved it.

haven't really done much of

haven't really done much of this. but basically, you just set your camera to a long exposure time, and adjust the F-stop to account for the amount of light. make sure the subject stays very still and the camera is on a tripod, or SohbetI have a feeling that some of these are done with real lights, but some must be photoshoped.
You would do it similar to the lighting tutorials, using color dodge and multiply.

chatsorry for my bad english, im french.

for those asking how was it done :

the simpliest and easiest way is not with photoshop at all !
those pictures, are real pictures, made with 2 things : a camera (reflex-digital) and lights (white, blue, red, green, as you want, since its some pretty powerfull light)

Simply fantastic

This is simply one the most fantastic video describing what RSS is, how it operates and why it is important to use. Whenever someone asks me about RSS and they do not understand my explanation, I send them here to watch this video. It is the most simple explanation I have ever seen. Excellent job.
