If you haven’t noticed, lots of new frankenwords are making their way through the online lexicon. Napster was one of the originals, prompting a number of new names like Friendster, Feedster and Dogster.

Now we’re seeing the proliferation of new words based on Podcasting. Some that I’ve seen are Beercasts (credit to Greg Narain), Snapcasts (credit to Jake McKee), blogcasts (credit to Jeff Jarvis) and pocketcasting. Maybe soon we’ll see a new social network of podcasters: podster.

Note: All "credits" above are purely speculative and based on incomplete research.

Perhaps Odeo will become the first social network of podcasters?

I've also been getting spam that has a subject line related to "Nastycasts"... don't have any idea what they're actually about... although I can probably guess.

There are also "screencasters".

That is like so lamester dudecast.

Another new one: Appcasting. There's also Slapcast which looks a bit like what Odeo hopes to be.

You know, I was trying to figure out if there was a way to do a partial word search on Google, but couldn't figure it out. I thought there may be a way to use a wildcard like *cast. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

According to my copy of Google Hacks, Google doesn't support stemming. At most you can substitute * for a word, like "three * mice" will give results for "three blind mice" and "three furry mice" etc. Doesn't appear that A9 supports stemming either.

You're the man Carrick.. Stemming- I did not know that was what it's called.

I'm dreaming about a foodcast here in Seattle. Roland Tanglao is in. How about you?

"...cast" is the new "...ster"

When you're ready for that food cast, I've got dinnercasting.com on tap ;)

"...cast" is the new "...ster"

I'm all over it. Just say the word.

"...cast" is the new "...ster"

OK, Greg, you WILL be hearing from me. Dinnercasting... I love it!

"...cast" is the new "...ster"

Yes yes YES! Very funny - and accurate - thank you! It reminds me of e-everything and then i-everything.
