Speaking at the Mesh Marketing Conference in Toronto

It seems like Toronto is becoming a second home for us.  I now have plans to be there for a conference called mesh marketing which happens on November 17th.

From the website:

Mesh brings together people who are passionate about the potential of the Web to change how we live, work and play. mesh is a gathering point for internet visionaries and communicators to Connect, Share and Inspire and to bring focus to emerging ideas and opportunities of the Web.

My session is called "A Story in Three Minutes - How to Explain Anything to Anyone" and is scheduled for 1pm.  I'll have a short presentation and then sit down with mesh co-founder Mark Evans for a "fireside chat".  I love the chat format and I'm excited to talk to Mark. Here's the complete schedule, filled with all kinds of smart people.

I'll be in Toronto for a couple of days, so if you'd like to hook up while I'm there, just let me know.

Speaking at Ignite Seattle August 3rd

If you live near Seattle, you should come out to Ignite Seattle 7 on August 3rd at the King Cat Theater, 7-11pm. I'll be doing a talk that night called "Where Goldfish Come From."  Ignite Seattle (like other Ignite events) is a night for speakers to present for 5 minutes using 20 slides that display for 15 seconds each.  It's similar to the Pecha Kucha format. I'll be one of over 10 speakers that night.

You might ask - goldfish?  Why goldfish?  Well, goldfish happen to be a very important part of my life. Here's a quick description from the Ignite website:

Everyone knows goldfish and koi, but very few have ever thought about where they come from – how they are bred, raised, transported, etc. I know these things like the back of my hand. Since 1968, my family in North Carolina has owned and operated one of the largest fish hatcheries in the US. Blue Ridge Fish Hatchery raises and sells goldfish and Koi – millions of fish a year.

I hope we'll see you at Ignite!

Underwater Blue Ridge Koi by you.

BarCamp Seattle is this Weekend! (June 13th & 14th)

If you live in or near Seattle, try to make it BarCamp Seattle this weekend.  Common Craft is a sponsor - I'll see you there.

What's BarCamp? I suppose you want an explanation in Plain English?  I'll try, but here's the Wikipedia page

People have gotten tired of the normal conference format.  Speakers on a stage, everyone else quiet. Everyone knows the best stuff happens over lunch or in the hallways.  BarCamp is an event that happens in cities around the world that offers a different, more open and free flowing take on conferences - known as an unconference. People (often geeks, entrepreneurs, artists, etc.) come together for 2 days. During that time, participants volunteer to contribute in some way. Often these are workshops, talks, demos, discussions, etc. BarCamp is all about having fun and doing what feels right.

Here are the details:
