You rock, Lee! Thanks to your recommendation elsewhere I just ventured into the RSS world - and this site is my first subscription. I'm learning a lot here, thank you!

But NewsGator? I checked on that link yesterday, and this morning did a sweep of my computer, and already two registry files were infected/invaded by these people.

This is just me, I have an extreme aversion to so called spyware, malware, pestware, what have you. "Non-permission" invasive marketing practices, if you ask me. You can read more here: http://www.cexx.org/gator.htm

What are your thoughts on the issue? Am I overreacting? Could well be. :-)

Glad I could help. I haven't heard of NewsGator having spyware- but I could be wrong. I know that there is a "Gator" that's a tool that fills out forms, etc. that's filled with spyware. Info on that Gator here: http://www.pchell.com/support/gator.shtml

NewsGator is NOT spyware, or anything of the sort. Occasionally, spyware detection programs will flag certain parts of the NewsGator installation, but in every case it's merely because of the "Gator" in the name "NewsGator". And, in every case, this is a bug in the spyware-detection application.

Already mentioned to Lee in mail that I posted that a bit quick, since I did experiment with some RSS readers simultaneously, and found some gator and other stuff on the pc from some of the several dozens of sites I flew by.

And may be a little oversensitive on the issue, since I volunteer quite a bit of my time removing such "ware" from my friends' and their kids' computers. (Almost every time they turn them on they're served ads for online casinos, lingerie and porn! :-)

Again, sorry for the confusion, Greg, looking forward to using NewsGator! Once again Lee's recommendations are well worth following!

(And I like Gatorade too :-)
