Great!

Everybody is using the internet today, but ask someone and he will not know what the internet is. Thanks for an easy to understand explanation!

Interwebs in plain english! Brilliant!

Yay Common Craft!

For those of you ready for the next step in learning about the web:

History of the Internet
by PICOL

How do I get my hands on Common Craft stickers?

Enjoyable and Elegant.

Know people who would benefit from watching this? I do.

Thank you, Lee and Sachi, for this elegant explanation.
Love the peek behind the "Another Site" hyperlink.

Now I have a way to to motivate colleagues abroad from sending text descriptions of navigation (click X then click Y... or red-circled screenshots ugh!) to graduate towards creating hyperlinks in their messages.

Very useful video

Hi Lee, Thanks for the WWW explantion in plain English. All your videos great.

I use all your videos to my mom and dad to explain complex and latest concepts.

CommonCraft logo on left bottom is to distractive and some times it blocks the whole image. especiall the house and computer keyboard images. I understand that it is available for only free version. But instead of having a full logo you can have watermark sort of image.

Thanks again!

Not receiving emails form Commoncraft

Hi Lee,

For some reason I've stop receiving emails from Commoncraft when new blog entries are up. Today, I recieved a note from someone else that the new vidweo was up. I tried to re-subscribe via the Feedburner widget on the sidebar but it says that my email is already subscribed?

simplicity = genius

I was just trying to teach a friend of mine who is a master mechanic about the WWW a few nights ago...

Thing is he speaks very little English (he's from central america and caters to the Spanish speaking population). The quality and pricing of his mechanic work is outstanding and I want to help him expand his business using the internet.

This video would have been VERY helpful in teaching him the basics behind the web.

Now I have a resource for teaching grandparents, older aunts & uncles and other luddites a basic, plain english understanding of how the wild wild web works ;)

OUTSTANDING work as usual Lee & Sachi.

all my best,
David Gonzalez

Nice, but....

Another easy-to-understand video, but I think that it confuses the web with the Internet. Your video says that it's called the web because the servers are linked to each. It's called the web because the _resources_ link to each other. The servers are connected to each other via the Internet.

To quote Wikipedia:

"Although the two terms are sometimes conflated in popular use, World Wide Web is not synonymous with Internet.[3] The Internet consists of a worldwide collection of computers and sub-networks exchanging data using wires, cables, and radio links, whereas the World Wide Web is a huge set of documents, images, and other 'resources' linked by an abstract 'web' of hypertext links and URLs."

Internet / www

Nice pick up, Dave!

Another tour de force (plain French!)

I am hooked on your Plain English explanations of complex subjects. I echo the comment submitted by CoCreatr above, your videos are enjoyable and elegant and to put it simply - they work!

I point everyone at your explanation of Twitter on the twitter.com site, and now that I've seen your www one, I'll point them at that too. They would be especially useful for 'silver surfers', as your videos bridge the gap between the paper-based world and things e-.

And like CoCreatr, I *loved* the peek behind the "Another site" link - brilliant way to demonstrate what a hyperlink is.

Great Explanation

Never knew exactly how it worked, I just expect it to be there when I need it. It's actually amazing that the web is as reliable as it is. Thanks for the video.

outstonishing

I need to say I really adminre your work.
You really outdone yourself with this video.
COngratulations and keep posting them here

What I should have know in the last century about WWW.

You brought back memories of my first insight into www in the mid-1990s. This video should have been used way back when.

Good video

Good explanation of how the basics work. Some of the things I was fuzzy on so this really helped clear it up.

Thanks.

Awsome!

An elegant explanation! Also to extend the analogy a bit, "commoncraft.com" is the friendly name that people can use to connect to your site without having to remember the IP address. When they type in that friendly name, their computer asks a directory -- or DNS server -- to tell it what IP your site is assigned to. Then it can talk to that site.

internet 101

Great video I think i well save this one then when i run into someone who just starting out this would be a great video for them to watch.

Simple & Easy

I agree - the videos are easy to understand and follow - I have forwarded them to friends who are not proficient on the internet.

Great for Newbie's on the NET!

I think this video is an excellent tool for someone new to the internet. I know my Mom who was quite intimidated to even turn on the computer really gain a great understanding of the net just by viewing this video.

Thank You, Great Job on the Video

Thank you !

I liked the simplicity of language and a lot of pictures in your video /
English is not my first language and this video was very helpful
to understand how WWW. works.
Anya

my mom will like this

my mom doesn't want to be bothered by the Internet , because she thinks she won't be able to understand how everything goes. well i'm new here and i certainly found a lot of things my mom may get to like, as in understanding how to surf the net. Hopefully this will keep her busy.

Plain English

The english is not my familiar language.
This video is useful for me.

Great education!

Thanks you guys for coming out with simple to understand animated videos to teach us folks how www or internet works. I hate the technicalities so this is something even 6 year old can understand.
