still good but not as good
This one is good, but not quite _as_ good at the wiki and rss videos. This one hits the value proposition really well but somehow lacks the panache of the other too. The "Yays" sound a little less yay.
Which is not that surprising. There is something kind of creepy about sns.

Yeah this vid is pimpin

Too quick
I felt that this one was a bit too quick. It didn't really drive me to want to try out a social networking website. Maybe if there was a bit more meat and some more involved examples... and I appreciate the desire to keep it short, but I don't think talking faster is the way to do it.
Good Stuff, again...
Great video again. The format still "works". I was excited to watch the new video when I noticed it in my feed reader this morning. Though, I have to say, Social Networking doesn't perplex folks as much as feeds and wikis. So, I'm not sure I'd forward this on to anyone - since I don't perceive the confusion to be there. In general, it's still good - quality work again, especially for folks with no Social Networking experience.
BTW, I'm begging you, please please please!!! do one of these videos for web based document management (i.e. Google Doc & Spreadsheets, YAY!!!) versus using antiquated client file based solutions with attachments (BOO!!!). There are so many people that Just don't Get It. Also, a follow up on web based Calendars would be incredible too.
Keep it going dude... you have found a nice little formula.
Good, but not as WOW
I liked it, but it didn't have the WOW factor for me that the RSS and Wiki videos did. But maybe that's because I already have SNS experience.
I'm still holding out for a tagging in plain english video. :)
Ditto
'Tagging in Plaing English' is a great idea! I'll be waiting on that with a baited breath.
Anyways, I liked the hearts off the chimney. So cute =)
Tagging!
Me too! I've been using these in staff training and other contexts - but TAGGING is what we need!
Which Tagging?
I hear you - I think it's needed too, but I want to be sure we're talking about the same thing. There are a couple of things people call tagging:
1) Tagging meaning Social Bookmarking a la del.icio.us.
2) Tagging meaning adding keywords to organize a set of items, like photos on Flickr.
Which tagging do you mean?
BOTH!
BOTH!
Yes please!
Sorry to get in so late on the conversation, but Tagging In Plain English gets my vote too!
Links and blog rolls!
Very interesting simple explanation.
Nice!
I really liked it. I'm a bit surprised by the other comments, because, it seems to me, there are always lots of people out there who don't get these sites, and this kind of video would be an excellent intro for them.
But, I think the different between rss and wikis on one hand, and social networking sites on the other, is that the latter is not so much a specific technology, or even specific kind of technology.
Social networks and social networking function in ways that are independent of technologies. And, the so-called social networking sites use different technologies to enable a range of social connecting that's not necessarily just social networking.
Still, again, I imagine your video will be very useful as a way to explain these sites to someone who's not really sure what they are or why people use them. I mean, saying what you said "in plain English" is going to be a big help to someone who needs an explanation.
Funny how the bar rises!
Reading all the comments above, it's funny how the bar rises and as the newness of the format wears off, and the precedent has been set, the commentary becomes more critical.
I think it's great. I liked the new "special effects". I'm excited to see you push the visual effects barrier given your constraints.
Great for busy people
I've worked with lots of people who struggle with these concepts...and it's hard to explain it when their attention span is < 2 min.... which is why I really like this one, I can see how it would be impactful on...my boss for one! It's almost like a snappy visual dictionary. Keep it up. It just gets better and better, practice makes perfect, nuff said.
Wow...
This explains everything so clearly my grandma could understand it. I was amazed at how fast you were able to cram so much information and still make it easy to understand. Great job on the video! I love the style you use.
Paperworks 3.0 Rawks
Excellent episode, Lee & Sachi! I talk to people all the time who think social networking is a total waste of time and only for teens, so putting this into the context of a new job or home makes a ton of sense. For this reason, I must respectfully disagree with the poo-poohers above. I give it a YAY!
Also, the audio is much improved over 1.0 and 2.0. Keep it up, y'all!
The Ebb and Flow
Thanks for honest and heartfelt feedback folks. We knew this video was a bit of a departure and may not strike the same chord as the others. Like Tony said above, social networking is not as perplexing as some subjects.
It's been great to see the various opinions, all coming at different times. We take feedback well and we're fortunate to have people who will call a spade a spade. We need to know what works and what doesn't (and why) so we can improve. Of course we're just as lucky to have people that will offer a "Yay". I'm talking to you Ben! :-)
After this video it's been interesting to see our perceptions change. We've rounded the corner from considering the individual videos to looking at the body of work as a whole . We're intent on making these videos our jobs and across the next few months I think you'll see that we're just getting started. Please keep the comments coming!
No ears
Thanks for this video guys. I really like the format.
Although I saw the video without any sound I was able to GET it. Yay.
Loving the videos - any
Loving the videos - any chance you could do something similar for mashups?
Rock It Don't Stop it
Love It! keep it up :)
Am sharing it with people at work who aren't quite so "in the know" -> will let you know their feedback.
cheers!
Simple and to the point
Chris Brogan (Exit 1A on my social network road map, http://grasshopperfactory.com/cbc/) passed this video link via Twitter. This is simple enough to send to my parents and friends!
I really like that this explains social networks around people and not around technology. The road map analogy helps get the point across.
Thanks!
I liked it so much i subtitled in French :D
I liked it so much I did the French subtitles on the DotSub page (great device too, btw). You were right - even it may seem paradoxical - to keep it very short, limited to how social networks are meant to work, without entering the issues of identity, ethics, spam etc.
The video can be used as a starting point to discuss these issues, but had you wished to cover them, 2 hours wouldn't have been enough and folks who have never tried one wouldn't have understood anyway.
good video and ...
This is the first video of yours I've seen, and you've convinced me to visit your site more often and to sign up at a social networking site. Just one suggestion---check the map again. Dallas is out of the way if you're going to Santa Fe. Oklahoma City makes a lot more sense.
So Easy Even a Caveman Can Understand It
Thanks for sharing that video with us. I've had a few questions over time about some social networks, your video answered many of those questions.
Now I have a reason to go sign up at more than the top 3 Social Networking sites.
Don
great for parents
These videos are fantastic! My dad will now understand what the heck Facebook is for!!
Keep it up!
(reblogged)
great for people who don't get it
This is a great video for people who think "my space" is their home or the twelve inch parameter of personal space that should not be compromised by a stranger or close talker.
I've tried explaining social networks to people who've never used email. This would be great for them.
For those of us familiar with the concept, I can see where we'd want to see more content about what other benefits a social network provides-case studies, if you will.
Only other suggestion, add oddpodz.com to your "get started here list" ; )
Clarifies the benefits of social networking
This is pretty straight forward for those who are still unclear about the benefits of social networking. If you want to try a new site that's incredibly easy to use try http://www.youpod.com. It's not as jumbled as MySpace and has a small community who are always willing to help and meet new people. It has chat, groups, and you can post your favorite sites to be voted on. Check it out...http://www.youpod.com. it's completely free so you can learn all about social networking and there's nothing to lose.
great V/O
HEY MAN
how are ya
great videos!
also...fantastic voice over!
great job!
Further accolades!
Just to add my thanks to the long list. These videos are really excellent - the perfect way to explain and enthuse anyone ....from corporate CIOs (yes, really!) to my daughters (6 and 10).
These will be blogged far and wide...!
Trouble with offline Quicktime version
I downloaded the Quicktime file so i could share it with colleagues off line. Can you think of any reason why I only hear the audio and not see the video when I play the downloaded file on Quicktime?
Thanks
A
Interesting video but...
It didn't show anything I didn't know yet, so it's only good for begginers.
Online dating sites are a type of social networking like this one http://www.AllHappyDates.com which allows you meet someone really interesting, share some photos and videos as well as the usual stuff na dmany more interesting (much more interesting than this video) things.
Keeping it simple
Excellent video. Explains very simply how social networking sites are essential
Six Degrees of Separation
This theory is very interesting and I want to invite you to be one of the first members to a new site.
It is an invitation only website and I think you will really like it. We are starting it with only the people that know and appreciate the six degrees theory.
www.GoogolMeHere.com . Kind of like a “MySpace” for grownups. It is based on the 6 degrees of Separation theory. I want to see how far my 6 degrees of separation can reach. It is really pretty interesting.
I was on MySpace but it was impossible to find my own daughter there.
Anyway, check it out and I hope to see you there. You never know who you will end up reconnecting with. Just put in this email address (GoogolBug@aol.com) in the Invitation section on the homepage and you can get in. Once you register, you can invite as many people as you want to. Make sure you read the “About Us” section to understand the website concept. By the way, the Basic site is FREE!
Real Utility?
I think this was a great explanation, but I think it's a bit too idealistic. Joining a network if fine, assuming the people you know are linked to people you need. From what I've seen in the older demographics, members have extremely limited networks and don't do much work to expand them. There's also a significant challenge in finding out if these links have something you need.
Then there's the value of the connection. How far does it get to you say "I know Bob, who knows Sally". It might open up an opportunity that otherwise might not have existed, but I think the perceived value of these kinds of connections are questionable.
Social Networks
This is a very good explanation of Social Networks. I wish I had found it last month before I had to do a presentation on the same!
One thing I am happy about, that is finding your site. It is wonderful and full of useful information. Thanks for doing it!
kk
Simple but smart
It was simple but really smart and witty. But this is mobile social networking genre. And 80% of the people today have account in any one of the social networking site.
I came across a SN site for who are inclined towards philosophy. Now every kind of SN sites exists. But like we say, even SN sites can't please everyone. :)
Video
I enjoyed your video and would like to use it to show my friends what we could do.
That was cool. I posted the
That was cool. I posted the Youtube version of this video on my blog and it is a real good way to show people the basic concept of social networking. I'm for example inside LinkedIn, but I still have some concerns about the real utility of this kinda tools. I mean, is there really people who trust you just because they trust a friend of yours?
Social Networking
I like your simple explanation of social networking, very succinct. Social networking can be an extremely valuable tool on many levels. Great site, glad I found you.
Networking with key people
Networking is a great way to let key people know about you business. I run two sites http://www.mortgagehome.co.uk/ and http://www.effectivebusiness.info/ and social networking helps my business
Nice approach on explaining a concept...
Your picture board style of explaining a concept (in this case, a fairly simple one, like social networking) is cool. I was OK with the speed of this presentation, but probably may want to slow it down just a little. Nice job!
Leelefever.... That Is A Perfect Presentation....
Not just the video but also the whole presentation is clearly prefect and excellent ... Ranked 10.
I quickly send the link to my blog lover friends and I know they will blog this post automatically. Hahah
Thanks for posting on this, now, many people can easily understand Social Networking.
Great job Leelefever.... Keep it up !!!

Social networks
Social networks are also a great way to help your websites' optimisation improve. Most sites have a high Google PR even on new profiles pages because of their high ranking in the search engines. This is because hit rates are high along with links and fresh original content.
I placed my site http://www.mortgagehome .co.uk/ on myspace and instantly got an improved ranking.
Social Networking helped my business
i have found that Social Networking helped my business due to number of friends and groups that you can link to. It greatly helped my site
http://www.musicinstrument.biz because it is niche and is dedicated to musicians.
Niche Interest Social Networking
I think that niche social networking sites are the future. They allow linke-minded individuals connect and collaborate with each other, leading to more productive and fulfilling relationships.
Also this appeals to advertisers as they can target their advertising spend.
Niche social networks are springing up for a whole variety of interests, industries and localities. Websites such as Ning facilitate this and search engines such as http://findasocialnetwork.com make niche social networks easier to promote and find.
Business Advice
As a UK business adviser I often tell my clients that one of the best ways to improve their website's internet ranking especially in Google as that is taking 80% of web traffic is if suitable is through joining social networking sites and through high calibre blog pages. As these sites are spidered by the search engines and placed in high listing positions.
Awesome!
Plain and simple, yet very informative and helpful. Thank you!!
myspace or facebook
that's the question . . .

Social network
Social networking is a great way to comunicate, I am trying to set my own group up.
won't be going away soon
yeah, social networking, imho is getting to be the biggest yet and wont be going away any time soon. It is probably best to just accept it and stat using it.
Short. Concise. What's Not to Like!
This is a great video explaining how this works. For a moment, I thought I was somewhere between the credits of Napolean Dynamite and a recent UPS commercial (lol).
I've been a linkedin member for some time but I think I'd better go and update my profile and look for new contacts to help me grow my reno real estate business!
Short and Sweet
I'm just finding this site for the first time. And it made its way into my news reader without hesitation.
Any time you can make what's happening on the web simple, understandable and more USEABLE, you've done a great deed.

Simple..But Not Too Simple
Social Networks are the future. In our business the future of real estate is social networking!
Social networking is only in
Social networking is only in it's infancy when it comes to the Real Estate field. The younger buyer will embrace this concept and it will become an even bigger part of our business as time goes by.

Real Estate Podcasting and Video
Good post but I'm curious what most people are using for video and podcasting. High end production software is very expensive and although I have done podcasting with Captivate and others the ideal tool is Adobe Premier.
Any suggestions on this?

Nice video
I really liked your video good to see people thinging out out the box and doing something different
Got Social Networking
I like social networking online because it enables me to network across different platforms and get input into from a wide range of people on the web. While in your video you talk about finding people you know, I found people I don't know and network with them...quicker online. It has been an amazing process so far. Thanks for another great video.
Good stuff !
I really enjoyed your analogy of ice cream producer. :-)
Wow, that is succinct!
I am never going to try and explain the mechanics or benefits of social networking again, instead I will just link to this page.
Thank you so much for a great resource!
